Going Transatlantic

Please note that bookings must be made at least one month in advance for transatlantic crossings. No late bookings will be accepted.

None of the freighters currently carrying passengers provide for a passenger to take a car, camper or motorcycle along with them as part of or in conjunction with passenger carriage. The vehicle would have to be shipped by the passenger via a freight forwarder, independently of their freighter travel arrangements.

NSB offers service on the mv Ibn Sina and Al Fujairah on a 77 day roundvoyage from New York to Europe, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan and India. You can choose a cruise segment, or take one ship to a foreign port on the itinerary and return on a later sailing.

These sisterships can accommodate a maximum of eight passengers in one Owner's Suite, two Double Suites, and two Single Cabins, all with private facilities. The dining room and lounge are shared with ship's officers. A sauna, fitness room (with tennis table and rowing machine or stationary bicycle), indoor pool and laundry facilities are all available to passengers. There is a steward on board. There is good deck space and passengers can walk around the entire ship on the main deck. The ships are fully containerized and as is common with newer container ships, the cabins, dining room, lounge, swimming pool and gym are located on 5 different decks. There is no elevator, so passengers must be able to negotiate many stairs. The lead officers are German, and the remainder of the crew is German or Filipino. There is weekly cabin service. The vessels were built in 1993 in Germany and are 45,470 DWT and about 708 feet long (216 meters).

The photographs were taken in 1995 of the Washington Senator, sistership to the Ibn Sina and Al Fujairah.

This is a large single cabin with one bed which is about 78" x 47" (2 x 1.2 meters), a wardrobe, refrigerator, chair, table, desk, and convertible sofa. The view is to the front and may be blocked by containers.

Single Cabin #303 is on Deck 4 and is about 226 square feet (21 square meters), is carpeted, and has private facilities with shower. This cabin has one bed which is about 78" x 47" (2 x 1.2 meters), a wardrobe, refrigerator, chair, table, desk, and convertible sofa. A trans-ocean crossing on a Tall Ship is the fondest dream of anyone who loves sailing. Imagine long lazy days at sea, watching the water slip under the bow, gazing at a horizon that is 360 degrees wide, feeling the steadying power of sails as they capture the energy of the wind and thrust your ship through the vast expanse of ocean. At times you can stretch out in the bow net and watch the water slip by just a few meters below you. For those who love the sea, this is the ultimate way to experience it! In all the world, there is no experience as wonderfully renewing and invigorating.

Star Clippers' fleet of three tall ships offer authentic sailing adventures with all the amenities found on a luxury mega-yacht. The ship's accommodations are thoughtfully designed featuring a private bathroom, air conditioning, hair dryer, private safe, television and telephone. The dress code is casual, and there is single, open seating in the dining room. Star Clippers was named "World's Leading Specialty Cruise Line" by World Travel Awards.

Star Clippers' flagship, the Royal Clipper, is the largest true sailing passenger ship, with 5 masts, 42 sails, and 21,000 square feet of teak deck. She can accommodate 227 passengers. Nancy sailed on her for a week from Civitavecchia, Italy down the Italian coast, and came back highly enthusiastic about the vessel and the crew. Click here for Nancy's article with photographs about her experience. Interesting shore excursions are offered for an additional fee. Free water sports are offered from the ship. The Star Clipper and Star Flyer have 4 masts, 16 sails, and 36,000 square feet of sail. They are 360 feet in length, with a mast height of 226 feet, and can accommodate 170 passengers.

Contact Joycene for more information and a brochure. Air arrangements are available or passengers can book cruise only. The ships are registered in Luxembourg. These offerings are for residents of North and South America only. No age limit.
